Training in the DRC
RAOFM in the Democratic Republic of Congo has embarked on an ambitious series of training events to develop broadcasting skills for Christian radio stations in the country.
Twenty-two participants (radio producers and journalists) from six Christians radio stations took part in the first course in early March.
The first course covered radio production and reporting based on Christian values. The three-day course was led by Edgar Mahungu, Jacques Vaeni and Edouard Mabutwa. Sessions covered collection, treatment and writing news; reporting in conflict zones and making programmes and reporting based on Christians values. The course also explored codes of ethics for journalists.
Radio stations sending staff to participate in the course were RAO FM, Shekina FM, Radio Sauti Ya Injili, Radio Maria, RTGLPE and RTSM. Other participants came from local churches.
The next training which will follow up from the first will take place in April. The courses are supported by the Africa Media Trainers’ Fund.
